Protect our DHS data

I am hearing from people inside the DHS that Elon Musk’s staffers are trying to access a vast database containing earnings information for nearly all U.S. workers. This database is maintained by the Department of Health and Human Services as part of the Federal Parent Locator Service, which is primarily used for child support enforcement.
Musk’s team is particularly interested in a section called the National Directory of New Hires. This directory compiles data from multiple sources, including:
- New Hire Reports: Information on newly employed workers across the country.
- Quarterly Wage Data: Earnings details reported by employers.
- Unemployment Insurance Benefits: Records of individuals receiving jobless benefits.
Since these reports come from employers and state agencies, the database effectively covers the majority of the U.S. workforce. Civil servants are pushing back against Musk’s efforts, working to block access to the system and prevent the misuse of sensitive worker data, but who knows how long that can last.
Please do something to protect our data.
