Protect federal workers' bargaining rights and effective governance

To: Pres. Trump, Sen. Hawley, Sen. Schmitt, Rep. Cleaver

From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO

March 28

The Trump administration's executive order ending collective bargaining rights for over a million federal employees is a concerning attack on workers' fundamental rights. Federal unions have provided an important voice for civil servants, allowing them to address workplace issues without disrupting government operations – a role explicitly protected by the Civil Service Reform Act. Revoking these long-standing rights risks undermining effective governance and is an unacceptable act of retaliation against unions advocating for their members. This order threatens to silence employees on matters of public safety, environmental protection, public health preparedness and more. Federal workers must be able to speak freely about issues impacting critical government services without fear of reprisal. Unions play a vital role in protecting whistleblowers and ensuring accountability across agencies. Stripping away bargaining rights makes it harder to retain experienced professionals and maintain an effective civil service. I urge you to denounce this harmful executive order and work to uphold federal employees' collective bargaining rights. Preserving these rights is essential for a well-functioning, transparent government that truly serves the public interest. Hard-working civil servants deserve to have their voices heard through their union representatives.
