At the same time, staffing cuts and office closures are expected to further strain the Social Security Administration's ability to efficiently process claims and assist beneficiaries. This comes at a time when resources should be increased, not reduced, to improve customer service and address the already lengthy processing times for disability claims. While efforts to prevent fraud and improper payments are understandable, these changes risk creating undue barriers for those legitimately entitled to Social Security benefits they have earned. A balanced approach prioritizing both security and accessibility is needed to ensure this vital safety net program remains available to all eligible Americans without unnecessary burdens. Reconsideration of these policy shifts appears prudent to avoid potential harm to some of our most vulnerable populations.
