Reject Bill Undermining Federal Courts' Authority Over Executive Overreach

To: Sen. Cantwell, Pres. Trump, Sen. Murray, Rep. Schrier

From: A constituent in Maple Valley, WA

March 31

The integrity of the federal judiciary is a cornerstone of American democracy and system of checks and balances. Any attempts to undermine or weaken the authority of federal courts pose a grave threat to the rule of law and separation of powers. The so-called "No Rogue Rulings Act" is a dangerous overreach that would strip courts of their ability to issue nationwide injunctions halting unlawful executive actions. This bill must be firmly opposed. Federal judges have an essential role in scrutinizing governmental conduct and protecting constitutional rights when the other branches overstep their bounds. Nationwide injunctions provide a crucial mechanism to quickly halt illegal policies that would otherwise inflict widespread harm before they are ultimately struck down. Limiting this power compromises the judiciary's role as a co-equal branch and enables the administration to perpetuate unconstitutional actions during drawn-out legal battles. Rather than attacking the courts for upholding the law, Congress should respect judicial independence and the importance of constraining overreach by any branch of government. The No Rogue Rulings Act is an unacceptable infringement on the critical system of checks and balances enshrined in the Constitution to safeguard liberty. I urge you to forcefully reject this alarming legislation that degrades America's democratic institutions and tradition of judicial review.
