The Citizens United ruling has had a corrosive effect on American democracy, allowing wealthy corporations and special interests to wield disproportionate influence through unlimited election spending. By equating money with free speech, the Supreme Court opened the floodgates for dark money to drown out the voices of ordinary citizens. This concentration of political power in the hands of a small elite undermines the fundamental promise of government being "of the people, by the people, for the people." The Democracy for All Amendment would empower Congress and states to implement reasonable campaign finance regulations and limit corporate spending in elections. It would enshrine the right of the American people to regulate the raising and spending of funds used to influence public elections. Overturning Citizens United through this amendment is crucial to curbing the undue sway of the wealthiest few over the political process.
