The Life at Conception Act seeks to implement equal protection for the right to life of each born and preborn human person from the moment of fertilization or cloning. This bill would essentially grant legal personhood and constitutional rights to fetuses and zygotes. While aimed at prohibiting abortion in all circumstances, the vague language leaves open the possibility of criminalizing certain forms of contraception and fertility treatments as well. Given the far-reaching and deeply controversial implications of this legislation, I urge you to reject this extreme proposal that would strip away reproductive rights and bodily autonomy. A measured, pluralistic society should respect individual liberty and personal choice on such a complex moral issue. Focus instead on evidence-based policies that improve access to healthcare, education, and economic opportunity to support families and reduce unintended pregnancies.
