Our public lands should be preserved for future generations, not exploited for short-term profits. Recent executive actions aim to drastically increase logging on federal lands, putting precious forests at risk of destruction. We must protect our national forests from unregulated timber harvesting that does catastrophic harm to ecosystems and wildlife habitats. National forests provide immense value as carbon sinks helping to mitigate climate change, homes for diverse plant and animal species, sources of clean air and water, and treasured spaces for outdoor recreation. Rampant logging degrades these invaluable resources that belong to all Americans. Instead of unsustainable deforestation, we should invest in science-based forest management that enhances wildfire resilience through controlled burning and thinning in the wildland-urban interface. I urge you to uphold environmental safeguards and halt policies allowing destructive clear-cutting and roadbuilding that imperil our irreplaceable public forestlands. We must prioritize long-term ecological preservation over the extractive industry's narrow financial interests. Future generations are counting on us to be responsible stewards.
