Strong Opposition to Pat Fallon’s Comments on Millennials and Retirement
To: Rep. Fallon
From: A verified voter in Plano, TX
March 20
I am writing to express my strong opposition to your recent comments suggesting that millennials and younger generations should simply “get a second job” in order to retire. Frankly, this is an incredibly out-of-touch and dismissive take on the real financial struggles facing working Americans today.
Suggesting that people should work two jobs for decades just to afford a basic retirement ignores the systemic issues at play—stagnant wages, rising costs of living, crushing student loan debt, and a shrinking safety net. Instead of pushing the idea that people should burn themselves out just to survive, we need real solutions: fair wages, a strengthened Social Security system, and policies that actually support working families.
Retirement should not be a privilege reserved for those who can endure a lifetime of overwork. Your comments do a disservice to the very people you were elected to represent. I urge you to reconsider your stance and advocate for policies that make retirement attainable without requiring Americans to sacrifice their health and well-being.
