Safeguarding Our Future
I am writing to you not as a partisan, but as an American who is deeply concerned about the rapid, sweeping changes being implemented within our government. These actions are not simply about efficiency or reform—they are fundamentally reshaping our institutions in ways that could weaken national security, public trust, and the ability of government to serve the American people.
The recent executive order impacting Voice of America and the U.S. Agency for Global Media raises serious questions. These agencies have long been crucial in providing fact-based news to the world. Why is there a sudden push to curtail their independence? What message does this send about our commitment to free press and transparency?
Additionally, under the newly created Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), federal jobs are being slashed at an unprecedented rate. Agencies responsible for national security, energy independence, and essential public services are being significantly downsized in the name of efficiency. While streamlining government can be beneficial, we must ensure that these cuts do not compromise our safety, stability, or the ability of public servants to do their jobs effectively.
A 30-day mandate for federal agencies to submit reorganization plans is not a measured approach to reform; it is a drastic restructuring that risks replacing experienced, career public servants with politically motivated appointees. If we saw this happening in another country, we would question the motives behind it. We should ask those same questions here.
This is not about one political party or administration. It’s about the integrity of our democratic institutions and their ability to serve all Americans. I urge you to take a stand, demand transparency, and protect the foundations of good governance that have long defined our nation. Now is the time to speak out and ensure that these changes truly serve the best interests of the American people.
