As a medical professional, I worry the affect of bill HB 3399 will have on my patients, on their health physically and mentally. I worry they will not be able to pursue lifesaving medical care. That they will not be able to thrive and the cost it will accrue to be under such stress to not be themselves. I worry of the influx of mental health needs that our system will not be able to keep up with. I worry for the lives that will be lost. Not just as a medical professional but as a human being, I worry for my fellow man, woman, and other gendered citizens. If not for them then for who else will I stand up for? Bill HB 3399 is not just a transgender issue. It is not just an LGBTQIA+ issue. It is a human rights issue. If we as citizens are unable to make decisions for ourselves in this regard, what other health decisions will we not be able to make for ourselves? Everyone has a right to say yes to treatment, just as much as they have the right to say no, for themselves and themselves only. Who am I as a medical professional to say no to what each individual can choose for themself.
