I am absolutely appalled by the recent introduction of the so-called “gender identity fraud” bill by Rep. Tom Oliverson. As a concerned and outraged Texan, I am writing to demand that you immediately reject this harmful, hateful, and utterly dangerous piece of legislation. The fact that such a bill has even been introduced is nothing short of an attack on the transgender and nonbinary community in Texas. This bill is not just an insult to people who are already marginalized and struggling, but it is an outright attempt to criminalize and delegitimize their very existence. The idea that gender identity—something so deeply personal and intrinsic—could be classified as a “fraud” is beyond reprehensible. This bill represents a grotesque distortion of the values that our state claims to uphold—values of fairness, respect, and equality. Instead, it promotes a culture of hate, division, and fear. It implies that transgender people, simply by existing and living authentically, are engaged in some kind of deception. It reinforces harmful stereotypes and fosters an environment where discrimination, violence, and hatred against vulnerable people can flourish. I will not sit idly by while this state continues to pass bills that harm, stigmatize, and dehumanize individuals simply because of their gender identity. Every person, regardless of who they are or how they identify, deserves the right to live freely and without fear of persecution. This bill is an affront to human dignity, and I am furious that it has even been considered. As a constituent, I am demanding that you stand against this bill with the urgency and gravity it deserves. The Texas I believe in does not target or discriminate against its own people; it protects and uplifts them. I urge you to immediately oppose this bill and any similar legislation that seeks to marginalize or harm our fellow Texans. Know that I, and many others, will not forget how you vote on this issue. We are watching, and we are determined to hold accountable those who choose to harm our most vulnerable. I expect nothing less than your staunch opposition to this bill and any future efforts that threaten the rights and safety of our transgender and nonbinary neighbors.
