I am writing to express my concern regarding the recent Signal chat scandal involving Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz, as reported by The Atlantic. This incident, which exposed sensitive military plans for strikes on Yemen, represents a serious breach of national security and calls into question the judgment of these senior officials.
While Secretary Hegseth shared operational details, including targets and attack sequencing, Advisor Waltz has admitted to creating the Signal group and inadvertently adding a journalist to it. Both actions demonstrate a lack of adherence to security protocols and undermine the trust placed in our nation’s leadership. Despite their public apologies, these failures demand accountability at the highest level.
As an elected official, I urge you to call for the immediate resignation of both Secretary Hegseth and Advisor Waltz. Their actions have compromised U.S. security and set a dangerous precedent for carelessness in handling sensitive information. Additionally, I request that you advocate for a thorough investigation into this breach to ensure such incidents are not repeated.
Our national security depends on leaders who act responsibly and uphold the integrity of their positions. I hope you will prioritize addressing this matter swiftly and decisively.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent issue.
