Reject voter suppression order, protect democracy and voting rights

To: Sen. Schiff, Rep. Gomez, Sen. Padilla

From: A verified voter in Los Angeles, CA

March 26

The proposed executive order requiring proof of citizenship for voter registration is a blatant attempt to disenfranchise eligible voters and undermine access to the democratic process. This mandate would create unnecessary barriers that could wrongly purge millions of U.S. citizens from voter rolls due to issues like outdated databases misidentifying naturalized citizens as non-citizens. Studies have consistently shown voter fraud by non-citizens is exceedingly rare. This executive overreach is legally dubious and conflicts with existing federal voting laws. We must forcefully reject measures that suppress the fundamental right to vote rather than safeguarding it. Our elected representatives have a duty to expand ballot access and protect the integrity of our elections by ensuring all eligible citizens can freely exercise their constitutional rights without facing discriminatory obstacles. I urge you to strongly oppose this order and any legislation that curtails voting rights and threatens our democracy.
