I'm writing to bring to your attention two urgent matters that require your immediate action. Firstly, I urge you to fight for the release of Mahmoud Khalil, a student activist and lawful permanent resident who was detained by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on March 8 ¹. Khalil's detention is a clear violation of his rights, and it's alarming that the Trump Administration is targeting him specifically for his activism on behalf of Palestinians.
Furthermore, I'm deeply concerned about the arrest of Leqaa Kordia, a protester at Columbia University, as reported in The New York Times ². It's essential that you condemn this unjust arrest and ensure that Kordia's rights are respected.
I request that you take the following actions:
• Demand the Release of Mahmoud Khalil: Use your voice, and whatever is in your power, to demand that Khalil be released from detention immediately.
• Condemn the Arrest of Leqaa Kordia: Publicly condemn Kordia's arrest and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
• Protect the Rights of Peaceful Protesters: Support legislation that safeguards the rights of peaceful protesters, including those who advocate for Palestinian rights.
I urge you to take immediate action on these matters. Your leadership is crucial in protecting the rights of all individuals, regardless of their immigration status or political views.
