Mack-truck-sized security breach deserves Mack-truck- sized punishment

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Sen. Bennet, Rep. Crank

From: A constituent in Colorado Springs, CO

March 24

The Atlantic has revealed that high-ranking officials in this administration “accidentally” included a journalist in a Signal group chat discussing military strikes. This alone is an alarming and reckless security breach, but it doesn’t stop there. Some of the messages were set to auto-delete, which violates federal records laws. Instead of facing accountability, they are covering their tracks. 18 U.S.C. § 793(f) makes it a federal crime for individuals entrusted with information related to national defense to, with gross negligence, disclose it to others in violation of that trust. This is a clear violation, and yet no one is being held accountable. If a Democrat were responsible for this, Congress would be calling for resignations and criminal charges. So where is your outrage now? Does national security only matter when it serves your political agenda? This is a grave breach of trust and safety. I expect you to demand a full investigation, true accountability, and real consequences—not deflections. Enough with the inaction. DO YOUR JOB.
