I'm writing to urge you to oppose any additional funding for immigration detention and deportation programs through the proposed Continuing Resolution, or related appropriations negotiations. As your constituent, I am deeply concerned about the financial and human costs of this funding for everyone in our state. The current proposal includes billions of dollars to fuel operations that tear families and communities apart, while diverting crucial resources away from essential human needs and services. I am counting on my member of Congress to reject the use of taxpayer dollars to target and harm people seeking or building a better life in our country, particularly as so many of us struggle alongside them to meet our basic needs.
We need better education, affordable healthcare, and secure housing—not more family separation, immigration jails, and border walls. I ask that you oppose any immigration detention and enforcement anomalies and Vote No on any funding that would increase the administration’s resources to carry out its draconian mass detention and deportation plans.
