Please oppose MO house bill 594 cutting capital gains
To: Rep. Butz, Sen. May
From: A verified voter in Saint Louis, MO
March 7
I’m writing to let you know I oppose House bill 594 to eliminate state capital gains tax.
I’m disappointed to see that the proposed bill includes a tax cut, but no plans explaining how to cover the lost income in the Missouri budget.
With proposed federal budget cuts, it’s likely that Missouri will have increased cost for programs like SNAP and Medicaid. So this is not the right time to be cutting a meaningful part of Missouri’s tax revenue.
I say this as one of the privileged percentage of people who regularly pay capital gains tax. I can’t see any reason why income I make from selling stocks or property should be privileged over income from my job.
I know you are likely to agree with me, but wanted to voice my opposition to capital gains tax cuts.
