Demand transparency on Texas transgender data collection

To: Sen. Cook, Rep. Morales Shaw

From: A verified voter in Houston, TX

March 20

In an article published by KUT News on 3-19-25, it was reported that the state of Texas has collected personal information on clients who have changed their sex on their documentation. Furthermore, any particulars as to why or with whom this data is being shared has not been disclosed. The state of Texas collecting information on transgender residents who have changed the sex listed on their identification documents in concerning and lacks transparency. Gathering private data on individuals without providing a clear rationale or outlining how the information will be used raises serious privacy concerns. Transgender Texans deserve to know if their personal information is being monitored or shared, especially given the ongoing efforts to erode LGBTQ rights in the state. There should be full transparency regarding the reasons behind this data collection effort, with whom the data is being shared, and assurances that the information will not be misused or exploited. Protecting the privacy rights of all citizens, including the transgender community, is crucial. The state should provide clarity on its policies and data practiced to alleviate fears and uphold principles of government accountability. Thank you for your time, and Slava Ukraini.
