I’m writing to urge you to oppose the proposed reorganization of the CDC’s HIV Prevention Division, which would dissolve its status as an independent office and merge it into a larger, non-disease-specific division.
This change would significantly weaken the CDC’s ability to lead and coordinate HIV prevention nationwide. For decades, the Division of HIV Prevention has played a vital role in research, community outreach, and funding support—especially for LGBTQ+ communities and communities of color most impacted by the epidemic. The proposed restructuring risks dismantling this progress at a time when the U.S. is still far from ending the HIV epidemic.
I ask you to speak out against this move and advocate for maintaining the Division of HIV Prevention as a standalone office with the autonomy and resources needed to continue its life-saving work.
Thank you for your attention to this urgent public health matter.
