Save the Texas Park and Wildlife Department vote against House Bill 4938

To: Rep. Flores, Sen. Eckhardt, Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick

From: A constituent in Austin, TX

March 17

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) plays a vital role in conserving our state's natural resources and promoting outdoor recreation. House Bill 4938 proposes abolishing the TPWD and transferring its duties to other agencies, which could disrupt critical conservation efforts and public access to parks and wildlife areas. As a constituent concerned about preserving Texas' rich natural heritage, I urge you to oppose this bill. The TPWD's specialized expertise in managing parks, wildlife, hunting, fishing, and environmental education is invaluable. Fragmenting these responsibilities across multiple agencies could lead to inefficiencies, lack of coordination, and potential neglect of important initiatives. Instead of dismantling the TPWD, we should explore ways to strengthen its capacity and funding to better serve the people of Texas. Our state's diverse ecosystems, outdoor recreational opportunities, and commitment to conservation are sources of pride that deserve a dedicated agency's focused attention. Please consider the long-term implications of abolishing the TPWD and vote against House Bill 4938. Protecting our natural resources and ensuring their responsible management for future generations should be a top priority.
