Please respect the people
To: Sen. Hough
From: A verified voter in Springfield, MO
March 8
I am writing to express my frustration with the Missouri legislature’s continued efforts to undermine the outcome of the recent election, where the people of this state voted in support of abortion rights. The measure passed with strong support, yet instead of respecting the will of the voters, lawmakers seem determined to overturn or restrict what was clearly decided by the people.
Why is so much time and energy being spent on trying to undo a decision made through a democratic process? Do some legislators believe they are smarter than the very people who elected them? One of the most frustrating things about Republican leadership is the tendency to disregard the will of the voters when it doesn’t align with their personal beliefs.
Instead of rehashing settled issues, I urge you to focus on the many other pressing concerns facing Missourians—education, infrastructure, healthcare, and economic development. Our state would be better served by policies that improve the lives of all citizens rather than by political maneuvering that ignores their voices.
I hope you will stand for democracy and represent the people’s decision, not override it.
