Hold a vote to end the economic state of emergency
To: Rep. Kiggans
From: A verified voter in Virginia Beach, VA
April 3
Donald Trump (who should be impeached for about 100 different reasons) has taken a sledgehammer to our economy. I’m 56 and can’t even bear to look at my retirement accounts. Surprise! Our compulsive liar president lied about our economy, declaring an emergency in order to roll out his tariffs. The large majority of economists agree that the tariff scheme is idiotic. Congress has the power to stop this nonsense. The Senate voted to end the economic state of emergency. However, House Republicans are trying to dodge a vote. Speaker Johnson, declared the entire session of Congress to be only ONE DAY long. What kind of magical thinking is that? I am stunned that an adult would pull such a juvenile stunt. I can’t believe you, or any reasonable person, could take that sleight-of-hand tactic seriously. Aren’t you embarrassed? If you really believe these tariffs are a great idea, push the Speaker to hold the vote, per the law AND the reality of a 24-hour day, and put your vote on record. Avoiding a vote is cowardly. Avoiding a vote by declaring the whole year is just one day long means you are willing to suspend belief in reality in exchange for power. Shame on you.
