Requiring Ukraine to surrender its sovereign territory to Russia in exchange for so-called “peace” is not a compromise—it is a dangerous appeasement of an authoritarian regime that will have devastating consequences for global democracy.
Recent reports suggest that members of this administration believe Ukraine will need to give up land to end the war. This is unacceptable. Vladimir Putin is not an honest broker—he is a dictator who has spent decades crushing political dissent, suppressing free speech, and violating international law. His invasion of Ukraine was not about security concerns or diplomacy—it was about power, expansion, and his belief that he can redraw borders through brute force.
If the United States and its allies pressure Ukraine into surrendering territory, we are sending a chilling message to every authoritarian regime in the world: If you invade a weaker country, the West will eventually force them to give you what you want. This sets a disastrous precedent that will embolden dictators and aggressors everywhere.
Furthermore, what kind of message does this send to our own democracy? We have politicians in this country openly idolizing Putin—treating him not as a warning, but as a role model. If we reward his brutality by forcing Ukraine to accept territorial losses, we legitimize his tactics and empower those within our own borders who want to see the same brand of authoritarianism take root here.
The United States should not be in the business of selling out our allies for the sake of expediency. Ukraine deserves our unwavering support, not ultimatums that force them to cede their land to an invading force. I urge you to:
1. Publicly and unequivocally reject any deal that forces Ukraine to surrender territory.
2. Increase military, economic, and diplomatic support to Ukraine to ensure it has the resources to win—not just survive.
3. Make it clear that the U.S. stands against authoritarian expansionism—whether it’s from Russia, China, or any other regime that seeks to conquer sovereign nations by force.
If you allow Ukraine to be carved up for the sake of “peace,” you are not stopping war—you are encouraging the next one. Stand firm. Do not let Putin rewrite history through violence. Democracy depends on it.
