Betrayal

To: Rep. Cole

From: A verified voter in Norman, OK

April 2

I am reading the President plans more tariffs on all countries! Experts say this will lead to a recession and cost the average citizen to spend an additional 4,200 a year! Unless one is rich, they can’t afford this! As our food, rent, mortgage, cars and insurance rise, we will all be hurting! As federal services like social security, Medicare and Medicaid are gutted, we will see desperation! Again how do you defend that? Your responses to me both minimize and normalize what is happening! The President ran on the promise to make the economy better! This is why there is so much anger at republicans town halls! Those constituents run across party lines! People feel scammed because they have been! People feel lied to because they have been! As you continue to defend the party line, please know we clearly see that you are not standing up for us! We all know you are acting on behalf of the regime! As our lives get harder, the anger towards representatives like yourself that defend cruel policies that make our lives harder will only grow! Our President now wants to deport those on temporary protective status! He wants to gut those who legally sought asylum from Cuba, Haiti and Venezuela! That is against our constitution. Only in authoritarian government does the law no longer matter. You remain silent! Shame on you! We now have a Venezuelan man, Kimal Garcia, who was swept up in the Venezuelan deportations. This has been acknowledged as an administrative error. The man was a legal citizen, a father of a disabled child and not a criminal! Now the administration says it can do nothing about this man being lost in an El Salvador prison! This is a man’s life. This administrative error only happened because he and others were not given due process. In fact, we don’t know if any of these Venezuelans were criminals! They were not give due process. These are the acts of a Dictator! University students who are citizens, not criminals and who exercised their free speech in peaceful protests were abducted and locked up! These are the acts of a Dictator! You remain silent! Our lives are getting destroyed! You remain silent! While we all appreciate that you kept one social security office open and the NOAA radar system open ( staff are still being cut), it’s a drop in the bucket! Your oath was to the constitution! You are betraying it and us! Corey Booker asked how those that watch the destruction of our democracy will answer in the future how they responded! Your answer will be that you remained silent and defended it! That’s a betrayal to all of us!
