Reject tariffs, preserve economic prosperity and global trade partnerships.

To: Sen. Peters, Rep. Dingell, Sen. Slotkin

From: A constituent in Saline, MI

April 3

The President's decision to impose reciprocal tariffs on foreign goods raises serious concerns about potential harm to American consumers, businesses, and the overall economy. These tariffs will inevitably lead to higher prices on a wide range of products, squeezing household budgets and cutting into companies' bottom lines. Furthermore, retaliatory actions from our trading partners could spark a destructive trade war, jeopardizing American jobs and economic growth. I urge you to take decisive action to prevent the implementation of these misguided tariffs. Protectionist policies have repeatedly proven counterproductive, undermining the principles of free trade that have fueled America's prosperity. Instead of erecting barriers, we should be fostering an open and fair trading environment that allows our businesses to compete globally while providing affordable goods and services to our citizens. The tariffs announced recently represent a concerning shift towards isolationism that could alienate longstanding allies and destabilize critical trade relationships. I implore you to reconsider this course of action and prioritize policies that strengthen America's economic leadership while avoiding the immense costs associated with a potential trade conflict. Our nation's future prosperity depends on maintaining robust international trade partnerships.
