White constituents care about Black America
As one of your white constituents, I stand with my Black friends and neighbors because their history is American history, and their rights are human rights.
I am writing to express my dismay
over the ongoing erasure of Black history and the blatant dismissal of anything that can possibly be described as diversity, equity, and inclusion (and accessibility).
This must stop.
And the recent damage must be undone.
You have the power to - for example -
immediately introduce and pass
legislation mandating transparency in historical preservation efforts within federal agencies like the Department of Defense and National Archives. You can ensure that decisions regarding historical materials are subject to public review.
Further and overall, you can and should defend free speech every turn by rejecting any legislation or executive actions that limit freedoms for marginalized communities or activists advocating/demonstrating for equality.
Undoing voter suppression and prioritizing fair and accessible elections is another piece to this issue.
We want you to speak and act FOR THE PEOPLE — and forget about billionaires’ money and influence.
These are crucial times, not politics as usual.
