The funding resolution put forth by House Republicans raises serious concerns and should be opposed by all Democrats. Extending funding at decreased non-defense levels while boosting Immigration and Customs Enforcement is misguided and fails to align with priorities that uplift communities. We cannot enable further harm through overfunded and unaccountable immigration enforcement. This stopgap measure neglects pressing needs like affordable housing, healthcare, education, and climate action in favor of inflating an already bloated defense budget. Providing a blank check for six months cedes oversight and allows troubling administration policies to advance unimpeded. Lawmakers have a responsibility to fund programs that invest in the people, not ones that prioritize corporations and security forces over human rights and dignity. I urge all representatives to vote against this resolution and instead pass a short-term extension that allows for a full appropriations process reflecting our shared values.
