Writing this on behalf of my father: I am a veteran of the United States Navy. Like all service members, I took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Members of Congress take this same oath, and it is my belief that this duty must be taken seriously—without compromise, without hesitation, and without fear. I am deeply concerned about the state of our government and the apparent lack of accountability being enforced upon those in positions of power. Our system of checks and balances was designed to prevent the rise of authoritarianism, yet we are seeing clear violations of democratic norms with little to no intervention from Congress. Allowing any leader—regardless of party—to act without restraint undermines the very foundation of our Republic. I urge you to take your responsibility to the American people seriously and stand up for the rule of law. Furthermore, I am gravely concerned about the future of Social Security. Millions of Americans, including seniors, disabled individuals, and veterans, depend on these benefits to survive. Any reduction or cuts to Social Security would devastate those who have spent their lives working and contributing to this country. I recently read troubling reports that Trump’s appointed Social Security chief is doubling down on threats to shut down the administration, putting recipients at risk. Playing political games with people’s livelihoods is unacceptable. These threats cause unnecessary fear and stress for those who rely on Social Security, and they must stop immediately. Elected officials are supposed to work for all of their constituents, not just the wealthy and powerful. I urge you to put people over politics and uphold the principles of fairness, justice, and accountability. The American people deserve leaders with the courage to stand up for what is right. I pray that you and your colleagues will remember the oaths you swore and fulfill your duties with integrity.
