An Open Letter
To: Rep. Suozzi
From: A constituent in Little Neck, NY
March 6
I am writing to express my deep disappointment in your censure vote of Representative Al Green. At a moment when our democracy is under assault, Representative Green was among the few who demonstrated the urgency and moral clarity needed to challenge the increasing authoritarianism in our nation. His censure sends the wrong message and weakens the already fragile opposition to the unconstitutional and dangerous actions of Donald Trump and co.
I have appreciated your accessibility to constituents and your willingness to town halls, but this vote is a profound disappointment. Democrats have been too afraid to stand against the frightening rise of authoritarianism and the erosion of our democratic norms. We need more aggressive, more unyielding action—not internal conflict that only serves to embolden those who would seek to destroy our institutions.
Given the deplorable state of our democracy, I would like to know what specific steps you plan to take to push back against Trump and his enablers' unconstitutional and anti-democratic actions. The time for restraint has long passed. We need bold leadership that is not afraid to confront.
I look forward to hearing from you.
