I am a mother of two school-age children, a teacher, and a proud member of my community in Waukesha, Wisconsin. I have strong concerns about the chaos and imbalance in our government over these last months -- both on the federal level and how it is reaching out across our state.
I believe in our system of checks and balances, where the executive, judicial, and legislative branches have authority over different parts of our government. In this system, no one part should overpower the others or attempt to steamroll over the entirety of government, and that is what I am observing right now.
The president and those around him such as DOGE are taking actions that are illegal, irresponsible, and are not truly trying to solve the problems of the American people. Instead, these actions are causing chaos, tying up our already overworked judicial system with challenges to the actions they are taking, and trampling over countless jobs and lives in the process.
The executive branch is not showing any respect for the other branches -- disputing and demeaning judges on social media when they uphold the law, closing agencies and firing people who are under Congress' jurisdiction, and more.
It is filtering down into our own state, as shown in the highly politicized state supreme court race, where representatives of that same executive branch are directly pouring money and influence into our own state's election process and decisions.
This needs to stop. The checks need to be restored, and our government needs to start listening once again to the people it represents. We are out here struggling, trying to balance our own family budgets, watching our retirement savings tumble, and seeing our country lose all respect in the eyes of the world.
Please speak up for our system of government which, while not perfect, is meant to be for all people. It is not the government of the president, to do with as he wishes. It is the government of the American people and of the people of Wisconsin. Please stand up for us.
