An Open Letter

To: Sen. Murdock, Rep. Reives, Gov. Stein

From: A constituent in Pittsboro, NC

March 14

I am writing to urge you not to cut programs like WIC and SNAP which are predominantly used by women for their families to be able to afford food. Cutting these programs keeps the poor in an untenable situation while keeping money in the pockets of the wealthy. Groceries are only getting more expensive and more and more families are struggling with food security even with both parents working. This and poorly funded education and healthcare cuts, work in unison to keep poor people in their “place” never allowing them to escape poverty. Programs like SNAP, Medicaid and public education extend a hand to help people out of poverty. Do not take this for granted, do not cut these programs to save a buck, which will undoubtedly go into the pockets of the already wealthy.
