I am writing to express my concerns about H.R. 1789, the Promptly Ending Political Prosecutions and Executive Retaliation Act. While I understand the intent of protecting executive authority, I believe this bill creates a dangerous precedent by politicizing law enforcement investigations. ***By placing political appointees in control of decisions regarding investigations into former presidents, the bill risks shielding individuals from legal accountability, undermining the very principle of equal justice under the law.*** This undermines the checks and balances crucial to a functioning democracy and could encourage future abuses of power. America established independence from Britain because we didn’t want a King above the law and we didn’t want a corrupt system of justice. Vote no against H.R. 1789. Prioritize maintaining the independence of law enforcement and the integrity of the justice system.
