The decision to fire thousands of civilian workers and key legal advisors from the Department of Defense poses a grave threat to national security. Reducing the workforce by up to 8% without conducting the legally required analysis is reckless and jeopardizes military readiness. Terminating probationary employees and top Pentagon leadership, including the Joint Chiefs Chairman and service chiefs, further undermines our defense capabilities. Of particular concern is the dismissal of judge advocate generals, whose role is to ensure lawful conduct and prevent war crimes. These shortsighted actions violate legal procedures and expose the country to unacceptable risks. Robust civilian expertise and independent legal oversight are essential for an effective, lawful military. I urge you to decisively oppose these dangerous cuts that endanger the safety of all Americans.
