The continued detention and proposed deportation of legal permanent resident Mahmoud Khalil is a grave injustice. As a green card holder who has lived in the United States for over 40 years, Mr. Khalil should not face removal proceedings after a decades-old conviction for which he has already served his sentence. Deporting law-abiding immigrants with longstanding ties to this country goes against American values of due process and redemption. I urge you to intervene in this case, grant Mr. Khalil relief from deportation, and prevent his separation from his family and community after such an extended period of peaceful residency. This unjust action must be halted.
