What Senator Booker accomplished this week is what Americans expect of ALL of our officials. He shared our voices. He related to our struggles. He highlighted issues. He did what we have been begging the rest of you to do. Americans do not want Christian Nationalism. Only Christian Nationalists do. Americans do not want racist and sexist policies. Only racists and sexists do. Americans do not want to be divided. Only those who know their power depends on dividing us do. There is a difference between “America First” and “America Alone.” The way this country is headed, we will very much BE alone soon, when all our historical allies turn their backs on us, and the countries Trump is aligning us with show their true colors. Senator Booker held the floor this week in defense of what everyday Americans want. We want freedom both OF and FROM religion. We want equality, equity, and equanimity. We want safety and security for ourselves, our families, and our friends. And we want to feel not quite so alone in this world. Politicians who ignore our pleas day after day, who vote against our interests session after session, who willingly turn over their power to a convicted felon as his Project 2025 puppeteers dismantle this entire country for the sake of hurting everyday Americans in the name of giving bigger tax breaks to people who never needed them, are the real problem this country faces. If you are too scared to speak out against the Trump administration, then I beg you to find the protection you and your family need and DO SO ANYWAY. If you are fully in lockstep with this administration’s policies and nothing will sway you, then I suppose I am wasting my time sending letter after letter, and you and your aids are wasting your time reading them and pretending to follow up. But if you disagree with even ONE THING that this administration is doing, you owe it to your constituents to speak out. It needn’t be a filibuster, but let us know that you hear us, that you sympathize with us, that you are fighting for us, that you care about us. Otherwise, you might as well resign and let someone replace you who will, because what good are you? As Senator Booker repeated in his 25 hours on the floor yesterday, “This is not right or left, it’s right or wrong.” Cutting government waste is certainly a good idea. But this administration is going about it the wrong way. Reducing access to vital services that Americans depend on, closing America off to all our allies and trading partners, placing tariffs that only serve to compound the economic hardship Trump promised to alleviate, sowing distrust of us around the world, and allowing Elon Musk to eliminate departments that were overseeing investigations into contracts with his very own business holdings… all of that is the WRONG WAY to do any of this. This is wrong. This is wrong. THIS IS WRONG. And if you think this is what the majority of Americans or even your constituents want, YOU, also, are wrong.
