THIS BRUTALITY BY OUR GOVERNMENT IS NOT RIGHT

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Pfluger

March 29

Is it true that 100s of international students on U.S. campuses woke up to an email from the Department of State telling them that their visas have been revoked and asking them to “self-deport” from the country? According to reporting, the students have been targeted as a part of Sec. of State Rubio’s “Catch and Revoke” program for students he believes are creating a “ruckus” and identified as such through social media posts indicating activism. Of what kind is not clear. The letter states that “deportation can take place at a time that does not allow the person being deported to secure possessions or conclude affairs in the United States. Persons being deported may be sent to countries other than their countries of origin”. In other words, GTF out or we are going to send you to El Salvador. After we snatch you off the streets in broad daylight. Axios reports that approximately 300 students have been detained nationwide by ICE in the three weeks that Rubio’s “program” has been in effect. How is it that foreign nationals’ ability to remain in the United States pretty much lies in the arbitrary judgment call of Marco Rubio? Is there proof of ‘ruckus’ that has been offered? Looks like there may be a catch…the Secretary of State has a reporting requirement: “If a determination is made under clause (iii) with respect to an alien, the Secretary of State must notify on a timely basis the chairmen of the Committees on the Judiciary and Foreign Affairs of the House of Representatives and of the Committees on the Judiciary and Foreign Relations of the Senate of the identity of the alien and the reasons for the determination.” Has Sec. Rubio provided this kind of notice to these committees given the number of people who have been arrested, detained, and deported in such a short period of time? By scaring students into “self-deporting” might he be trying to avoid the reporting requirement? Judging from past actions by the Trump administration the endgame here is likely to get these students out, one way or another, before the courts have time to even catch up and review whether what they are doing is in compliance with the law and the Constitution. Are there protections for the due process rights of those being deported? Or can the Sec. of State randomly find people he doesn’t like, claim that they are interfering with “foreign policy”, and put them on a plane to a country not their own? Are you aware of this program? Do you approve of this program? Do you think it’s appropriate to ship people off to countries not their own? With no due process under our immigration laws? The video we’ve all seen of a bunch of masked guys in black snatching a woman off the street as she screams and sending her, where?, should chill your blood. She’s someone’s daughter. Is this the brutal country you want to be a part of?
