Please Save IMLS

To: Sen. Tillis, Rep. Rouzer, Sen. Budd

From: A constituent in Wilmington, NC

March 20

Please save IMLS. They fund museums and libraries that your constituents use every day. Closing IMLS will mean layoffs in NC, especially for those whose jobs are funded through IMLS, and for many others as the economic impact begins to be felt. The state also distributes over $5 Million in funding to local libraries—many in rural communities that cannot support their own library. Did you know that $5 in tax revenue is generated for every $1 of government funding received by museums? Eliminating IMLS funding will harm our economy, communities, and work force—AND it will save nothing, since IMLS’s funding stimulates our economy. Are you really willing to harm local museums, eliminate library resources, and see your constituents lose their jobs just to make DOGE and President Trump happy—even though doing so will LOSE money and economically harm the communities you represent? Finally, Americans support museums and libraries at a rate of 90-97%. I can’t think of a single issue that Americans agree on more. Please, grow a spine and stand up for the people YOU are supposed to be representing.
