I am writing to express my profound concern regarding the actions and recent public statements made by Representative Jared Golden, serving in the U.S. House of Representatives for our state of Maine. His legislative initiatives and rhetoric pose a potential threat to our democracy and the values we hold dear.
Representative Golden has introduced tariff bills and co-sponsored measures originating from Texas, which have consequently been detrimental to the economic interests and foundational principles of our community. Furthermore, his recent newsletter casts doubt upon the constitutionality of our government's actions, particularly in the wake of the president's alarming declarations and actions, which included a self-proclamation as "king" through White House communication channels.
This occurred after the executive order intending to nullify birthright citizenship—an order which directly contradicts the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution—and the removal of constitutional documents from official White House platforms. Such actions are deeply troubling and underscore a disregard for our nation’s supreme law.
Additionally, Rep. Golden has openly voiced support for the president’s rapid and unchecked reforms to the federal government, while advocating for questionable justifications regarding the perceived benefits of such means. This advocacy seems to align more with undermining regulatory standards and political practices that protect our democratic processes than ensuring they are supportive.
Given these considerations, I respectfully urge you to investigate these concerns and pursue actions up to and including impeachment proceedings against Representative Golden. His current legislative and ideological alignments are not reflective of Maine’s best interests and appear incompatible with his duty to uphold the Constitution.
