I strongly oppose the proposed "No Retaining Every Gun In a System That Restricts Your Rights Act." This bill aims to destroy all firearm transaction records held by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) for discontinued gun businesses, and prevent the ATF from collecting such records in the future. Maintaining these records is crucial for public safety and law enforcement investigations. If a firearm is used in a crime, authorities need access to transaction records to trace the weapon's history and potentially identify suspects or persons of interest. Destroying these records would severely hamper efforts to solve gun-related crimes and hold perpetrators accountable. Furthermore, the misleading title of the bill suggests an agenda to undermine reasonable firearms regulations under the guise of protecting rights. Responsible gun ownership and public safety are not mutually exclusive. We should reject attempts to dismantle systems that allow law enforcement to investigate gun crimes effectively. I urge you to vote against this misguided legislation that would jeopardize public safety and hinder law enforcement's ability to solve gun-related crimes. Protecting the rights of law-abiding citizens does not necessitate destroying vital investigative records.
