Take immediate and decisive action against slashing funding of federal agencies

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn, Rep. Arrington

From: A constituent in Big Spring, TX

March 16

I am writing to demand that you take immediate and decisive action against the reckless and destructive executive order signed by President Trump on March 14, 2025, which slashes funding for seven critical federal agencies. This order is an outright attack on public services that support education, economic development, global democracy, and vulnerable communities. It is unacceptable, and I expect you to take a strong stand against it. These agencies are not expendable. They are essential pillars of our society, and their gutting will have devastating consequences: • Defunding the U.S. Agency for Global Media silences America’s voice in the global fight for truth and democracy. It is appalling that the administration is actively dismantling institutions like Voice of America, paving the way for authoritarian influence. • Destroying the Institute of Museum and Library Services is an assault on public education and community enrichment. Libraries and museums—especially in rural and underserved areas—rely on this funding to keep their doors open and serve the public. • Dismantling the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness during an ongoing housing crisis is not just negligent—it is cruel. Without this coordination, more Americans will be left without support, housing, and pathways to stability. • Crippling the Minority Business Development Agency is a direct attack on economic opportunity for minority entrepreneurs, stifling small businesses and reinforcing systemic inequities. This executive order is not about fiscal responsibility—it is about undermining institutions that serve the public good while prioritizing special interests and corporate greed. I refuse to accept these cuts as anything but an ideological assault on democracy, education, and economic justice. I demand that you publicly and aggressively oppose this executive order. I expect you to take concrete steps to block its implementation, whether through legislative action, legal challenges, or public advocacy. Anything less is a failure to uphold your duty to the American people. Your constituents are watching. I will not stand by while essential services are dismantled, and I will hold you accountable for your response to this attack on our institutions. I urge you to act immediately.
