ICE recently conducted an arrest of a college student named Mahmoud Khalil. This student was exercising his right to freedom of speech by joining a pro-Palestine protest. Whether your are pro-Israel or pro-Palestine, this sort of executive and legal overreach is horrifying, as EVERYONE in America has the first amendment right to freedom of speech and the freedom of assembly. ICE is not the gestapo. They do not have the right to unilaterally arrest someone for an opinion that the president doesn't like. Further, they do not have the legal right to revoke a green card over freedom of expression. If appeals to the Constitution don't move you, remember that that pendulum always swings back eventually in our democracy. Would you want a Democratic president like Biden arresting Republicans who were peacefully protesting? (And no, the January 6 Insurrection is not the same thing. That was a violent incursion by a mob into the halls of Congress.)
