Demand Immediate Investigation and Accountability for National Security Breach
To: Sen. Tillis, Rep. Edwards, Sen. Budd
From: A constituent in Waynesville, NC
March 26
The recent Signal breach involving senior officials is not just a lapse—it’s a damning indictment of the current administration’s recklessness and unfitness to lead. Top officials, including the Vice President and Defense Secretary, used an encrypted chat app to discuss sensitive war planning and then accidentally added a journalist to the thread. This isn’t just embarrassing; it’s dangerous.
The fact that classified or near-classified conversations were happening outside secure government systems is bad enough. But to make matters worse, the administration’s response has been flippant, with the President brushing it off as a “glitch.” That’s not a glitch. That’s gross negligence.
National security was compromised. Basic protocol was ignored. Public trust eroded—again. If any private citizen had done this, they'd be facing charges. We need to see immediate, transparent investigations, consequences for those involved, and a clear path to prevent this level of incompetence from repeating itself.
Anything short of accountability and corrective action is complicity.
