Greg Abbott has the power to arbitrarily delay the special election to fill the vacant congressional seat in Texas's 18th District until November 4th. This would leave the heavily Democratic, majority-minority district unrepresented in Congress for nearly half a year. It is crucial for the integrity of our democracy that all citizens have equal representation without undue partisan obstructions. An election should be held on May 3rd to allow voters to exercise their fundamental right to choose their representative in a timely manner.
