congress I am writing as a concerned constituent to express my strong opposition to President Trump’s recent executive order aimed at dismantling the Department of Education. This action poses a significant threat to the quality and equity of education in our nation, particularly affecting low- and middle-income students.
The Department of Education plays a crucial role in administering federal student loans, Pell Grants, and resources for children with special needs. Its elimination could disrupt these essential services, widening the educational gap for underprivileged communities.
Our nation’s educational standing is already a cause for concern. In the 2023 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS), U.S. students’ math scores declined significantly compared to 2019, with countries like Finland, England, and Poland surpassing us.
Dismantling the Department could exacerbate these issues by disrupting funding for programs that support low-income and special needs students. Critics argue that such a move could impede essential services and violate statutory mandates, further hindering our educational progress.
I urge you to oppose this executive order and advocate for the preservation of the Department of Education. Ensuring equitable access to quality education is vital for our nation’s future.
Thank you for your attention to this critical matter.
