Reject authoritarian voter suppression; defend state election authority

To: Sen. Kennedy, Gov. Healey, Rep. Howard

From: A verified voter in Lowell, MA

March 30

I am deeply concerned about Trump's recent executive order that seeks to undermine state authority over elections and disenfranchise millions of voters. This unlawful federal overreach threatens to strip states of their constitutional responsibility for regulating and administering federal elections. The requirement for voters to produce documentation like passports to prove citizenship is an onerous burden that studies estimate could disenfranchise up to 9% of eligible voters who lack such documents. Furthermore, granting federal agencies access to state voter rolls is a dangerous invasion of privacy and states' rights. Voter fraud is exceedingly rare, and these measures are a transparent attempt to suppress votes under the guise of election integrity. I urge you to reject this authoritarian power grab and stand firm in defending our state's current election laws from this egregious executive overreach that undermines our democracy.
