Jack Smith’s report laid it out clearly; Donald Trump is a criminal who attempted to overturn the 2020 election, subvert democracy, and seize power through lies and coercion. That report was not just a historical document — it was a warning. And yet, despite its findings, Congress is still treating Trump like a legitimate political figure rather than the existential threat to democracy that he is.
Let me be clear: Trump should not be president. He should not be dictating policy. He should not be influencing the budget, national security, or our foreign policy. And he sure as hell should not have the backing of any elected official who claims to care about democracy.
So why are members of Congress still caving to him? Why are you conceding to his demands instead of using every tool available to block his extremist, authoritarian agenda? The man tried to dismantle free elections and is currently running on a platform of revenge and retribution against his political enemies. You don’t negotiate with that. You stop it.
Every time Congress allows Trump to dictate the narrative — whether through his control over the Republican Party, his legal battles, or his manufactured political crises — it chips away at the fragile democracy we are desperately trying to hold onto. You swore an oath to protect the Constitution. That means standing up to Trump, refusing to give in to his demands, and ensuring he never gets anywhere near power again.
History will remember what you do right now. Stand up. Fight back. Or be remembered as the people who let democracy die.
