Preserve judicial independence and checks on executive power

To: Pres. Trump, Gov. Shapiro, Rep. Malagari, Rep. Dean, Sen. Fetterman, Sen. Collett, Sen. McCormick

From: A constituent in Lansdale, PA

March 25

It is crucial to uphold the independence of the judiciary and maintain the system of checks and balances that safeguards our democratic principles. Nationwide injunctions issued by district court judges serve as a vital counterweight to potential overreach by the executive branch. Attempting to impede or threaten judges through impeachment for lawful rulings would undermine judicial autonomy and the separation of powers. We must respect the role of federal courts in interpreting laws and regulations, even when their decisions may conflict with certain policy objectives. The appeals process provides a well-established mechanism to challenge rulings deemed erroneous, without compromising the judiciary's ability to act as a check on the other branches of government. Preserving this fundamental aspect of our constitutional framework is essential for sustaining the rule of law and protecting individual rights.
