I am writing to express my unequivocal opposition to the recent executive order issued by President Trump, which mandates the destruction of millions of trees under the pretense of economic development. This reckless directive is an assault on our nation’s forests, ecosystems, and the long-term environmental health of our communities. I urge you to take immediate action to resist and counteract this destructive measure.
Mass deforestation at this scale is not only an environmental catastrophe but also an economic and public health disaster. Our forests play a crucial role in carbon sequestration, biodiversity preservation, and disaster mitigation. Stripping away millions of trees will accelerate climate change, increase the frequency of deadly wildfires (not eliminate them as President Trump has inaccurately stated), and devastate wildlife habitats—irreversibly harming future generations. Furthermore, we should be working with our neighbors and friends in Canada and not against them to share resources and protect natural resources.
It is your duty as an elected representative to safeguard the interests of your constituents, not to rubber-stamp policies that cater to corporate greed at the expense of public welfare. I implore you to introduce or support legislation that blocks this executive order, hold hearings to expose its dire consequences, and work alongside fellow lawmakers to challenge it in every possible way.
Silence is complicity. The people you serve demand and deserve leadership that prioritizes science, sustainability, and the well-being of future generations.
