RESIST ATTACK ON FEDERAL JUDICIARY

To: Rep. Pingree, Sen. Collins, Sen. King

From: A constituent in South Portland, ME

March 26

I am writing to express deep alarm over recent rhetoric and proposals from Republican leaders aimed at undermining the independence of our federal judiciary. The growing talk of shutting down courts, impeaching judges over political disagreements, and cutting off funding for the judicial branch is nothing short of an attack on the constitutional framework of our democracy. Our system of government depends on the independence of the courts. These threats are not simply extreme—they are authoritarian in nature, and they represent a clear and present danger to the rule of law. The judiciary is not a tool to be manipulated or silenced when it rules in ways that certain politicians dislike. This is not normal political debate. It is a reckless, destabilizing effort to delegitimize one of the three co-equal branches of government. And it demands a forceful response. I urge you to speak out clearly and act decisively to defend the judiciary from political interference. Our democracy cannot survive if the courts are held hostage to partisan threats.
