I write to urge you to stand firmly in support of Ukraine and against any efforts—foreign or domestic—to undermine democracy, our alliances, and the rule of law. The United States was founded on the principles of liberty, self-governance, and resistance to tyranny. As George Washington warned in his Farewell Address, we must be wary of those who would weaken our international commitments: "The great rule of conduct for us in regard to foreign nations is…to have with them as little political connection as possible, so far as we have already formed engagements, let them be fulfilled with perfect good faith." Ukraine’s struggle is our struggle. Vladimir Putin’s aggression is not just an attack on one nation but an assault on the principles of freedom that we have long championed. If we abandon Ukraine, we betray the very values that our founders risked everything to secure. At home, we face another threat—efforts to erode democracy through authoritarian rhetoric and disregard for the Constitution. John Adams once said, “A Constitution of Government once changed from Freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.” We cannot allow Donald Trump or his enablers to dismantle our institutions, sow chaos, or weaken our alliances for personal or political gain. I urge you to take a stand—support continued aid to Ukraine, defend NATO, and resist any actions that normalize authoritarianism in our own nation. Our history demands it. Our future depends on it.
